Tergar Melbourne is delighted to announce our first ever residential retreat, led by our chapter mentors, Myoshin Kelley and Edwin Kelley who are founding members of Tergar International.

There are times when our lives may be turbulent and confusing, and we can easily become disheartened and feel disconnected. However, meditation offers us an opportunity to open to these difficulties and access our inner resilience. At its heart, meditation is very practical. It is not about changing our life’s circumstances so that we can feel better, or become a better person, but realizing that we are whole and complete, right here, right now, regardless of our situation. Meditation is a method for discovering who we truly are.

In this retreat we will learn how to connect to the qualities of awareness, compassion, and wisdom in our everyday life, through the practice of the six paramitas. The six paramitas are the natural expression of our awakened mind; generosity, ethical conduct, patience, joyful effort, meditation and wisdom. By exploring the six paramitas, we will learn how they support us in the here and now and enrich how we live our lives. This journey leads us beyond a limited sense of self to a heart that is open and at ease.

During the first weekend of this retreat we will explore key points from the Joy of Living. Then through the week we will discover how the six paramitas support our meditation practice. During the final weekend we will examine the possibility of making these qualities the basis of our everyday lives.

Myoshin & Edwin Kelly-600X314.jpg

Edwin Kelley attended his first meditation retreat near Perth, Australia in 1975, then in 1992 went to Burma to undertake a six-month period of intensive meditation practice with meditation master Chanmyay Sayadaw. While practicing in Burma he ordained temporarily as a Buddhist monk.

In 1994 he was hired as Director of Operations by one of America’s best known meditation retreat centers, the Insight Meditation Society (IMS), in Barre, Massachusetts. Eighteen months later he was appointed Executive Director of IMS and served in that capacity until 2003 when he resigned to pursue further long-term intensive meditation practice.

Edwin first encountered Tibetan Buddhism in Dharamsala, India in 1993. Since 1997 he has received instruction in the practice of Dzogchen from Tsoknyi Rinpoche and further instruction in Dzogchen and Mahamudra from Mingyur Rinpoche.
